Grounding ResponseGrounding and distressed cargo management
The vessel grounded in the Black Sea close to the Turkiye coast. We assisted the Owners' P&I insurers with managing distressed cargo on board and maintained detailed records to support the claims handling process for years afterwards.
Reefer CasualtyReefer power failure and cargo disposal
The vessel suffered a power failure affecting more than 100 reefer containers. We supported the Charterer's P&I interests through surveying, discharge, disposal of decomposed cargo, and record-keeping required for long-tail claims handling.
Container CasualtyContainer loss and collapsed stacks after heavy weather
Following a heavy weather encounter, the vessel lost containers overboard and multiple stacks collapsed on board. We assisted the slot Charterer's and their P&I insurers, coordinated joint surveys, salvaged recoverable cargo, and kept stakeholders informed as the casualty response and claims work progressed.
Salvage CoordinationGrounding, cargo discharge and salvage coordination
The vessel grounded and partially sank in shallow water. We managed discharge of distressed cargo, organised joint surveys, coordinated salvage of recoverable cargo, and maintained detailed records that supported the claims handling process for years afterwards.
Port IncidentGantry crane collapse, fire and flood damage
A gantry crane collapsed into the vessel in port, and subsequent recovery operations triggered fire and firefighting flood damage within the cargo holds. We assisted the Owners and their P&I insurers with joint surveys, salvage, disposal, and the wider distressed cargo response while preserving the record needed for claims handling long after the physical operations had ended.
Vehicle DamageGrounding, lashing failure and vehicle discharge
Shortly after departure from port, the vessel grounded in shallow water and developed a heavy list that caused lashings to fail and damaged vehicles within. We supported the Owners and their P&I insurers with discharge operations, vehicle surveys and the related claims handling record.
Cargo SecuringLoading, stowage and lashing guidance
We have guided shippers, freight forwarders and receivers on correct loading, stowage and lashing in line with the IMO CSS Code, including direct coordination with lashing companies and stevedores.
Cause AnalysisContainer stack collapse causation analysis
We have investigated incidents where vessels arrived in port with collapsed stacks, containers lost overboard or both. Our findings have included poor heavy-weather avoidance decisions, main engine failures, lashing gear defects, damaged fittings and incorrect twist locks outside the approved cargo securing manual.
Remote AdvisoryRemote P&I support on mixed cargo loading
While steel coils, steel products and vehicles were being loaded in China, we remotely supported a P&I Club by identifying unsafe loading and stowage practices. Our guidance applied IMO CSS Code principles and Class Rules for non-homogeneous coil loading on tank tops to reduce catastrophic risk.
Steel SurveysPre-discharge and outturn steel cargo surveys
We regularly carry out pre-discharge and outturn surveys of steel cargoes to identify pre-shipment issues, stowage defects, water ingress, lashing concerns and tally discrepancies before cargo is released against the documents.
Claims DefenceWood pellet water ingress defence
We investigated an alleged water ingress claim affecting a consignment of wood pellets and were able to prove that the damage was caused by ship's sweat rather than hatch leakage. The outcome materially strengthened the Owner's defence and confirmed that the vessel's cargo holds were weathertight.
Volume SurveyStockpile and silo volume calculations
We carry out stocktakes of silos and material stockpiles for local clients, using either point-cloud capture and 3D modelling or proven manual calculation methods depending on site conditions and feasibility.
Port DamageStevedore damage investigation
Our survey attendance and document analysis established that alleged cargo damage did not occur at the subject port. The investigation provided the evidential basis needed to defend the claim position.
Dock LiabilityDock damage investigation
On instruction from P&I insurers, we investigated alleged damage to port fenders using site attendance, on-board inspection, document review, VHF communications and video footage. Our findings showed that most of the claimed damage was not caused by the assured vessel.
Contamination ClaimSUV soot contamination investigation
Before discharge in the UK, Receivers alleged soot damage to a consignment of brand-new SUVs. We attended on behalf of the vessel's P&I insurers, surveyed the vehicles, gathered samples and showed that the contamination occurred ashore before loading when wind carried soot from a nearby steel factory across the parked cars.
